FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Portland, OR - July 13, 2023 - Chauncey Canfield, a lifelong musician, composer, and producer based in Portland, OR, has announced the release of his new EP, "Braevantry: Continuous Compositions."

The EP, which will be released July 14, 2023, is a collection of spontaneous solo piano improvisations recorded on a single evening during a YouTube livestream on his channel

“Exploration” is an apt description, as nothing was pre-planned. The tracks were woven on the fly, evolving in real time. They emerged just as you hear them–captured in their final state, with titles added after the fact.

This unusual live compositional technique recalls that of Keith Jarrett. Rare is the person who combines such a gifted intuitive ear with the effortless technical mastery needed to fully realize these sophisticated musical thoughts as they occur.

Chauncey Canfield's musical philosophy is that of a perpetual wanderer. He feels equally at home in the worlds of both electronic and acoustic music.  Catch him playing around the Portland area or on livestreams.

For fans of: Joep Beving, Eydis Evensen. Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Hania Rani, Max Richter, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Brad Mehldau.

As much as I love the lush layers and complexity made possible via production, I’m also drawn to the stripped-down, exposed intimacy of solo acoustic which leaves nothing to hide behind. The rawness and vulnerability of a single instrument allows for a different level of expression and can be powerful and moving on its own. ”
